Davies Era Part Deux
Still chipping away at some Classic Who stuff and don't have much of an update (other than I still think my current timetable is on track) but I just wanted to jump on here and scream about THIS.
I never in a million years thought there was any chance Russell T Davies would ever return to Doctor Who in any major capacity, much less as a showrunner. I thought there was a chance he or Moffat would return to helm the 60th specifically but never seasons of the show again. I'm actually really excited because I think Russell is really good at character writing and has only leveled up as a writer in general in his time away from the show, so I'm looking forward to seeing what new stuff he'll bring to the show (and not just who might be popping back up on the show).
I will say, I suspect that he'll only be around for one Doctor cycle this time around (3 series, 3-4 years) and that's gonna be the new norm for the show. I'm kind of okay with that because as much as I adore the 12th Doctor's era, I know Moffat was split in several directions towards the end, and the show will definitely benefit from getting the showrunner's full attention for a shorter span of time. Also, considering how entwined Chibnall's era is with Davies' first, I wonder if anything from the current era will carry over to this next one. And with UNIT returning (and Kate and Osgood becoming semi-active characters again) I wonder if the new show will be unafraid to have that mix of new and old going forward.
Also, considering Davies' affinity for spinoffs, I wonder if we'll get any new stuff like that with his return. I'm less optimistic about a Torchwood return considering all the stuff that's gone down with Barrowman (even a version without him) but I feel like a spinoff starring Ace or even Jo Grant is very much in the cards.
So,in summation, I'm very energized about Doctor Who right now and I'm excited for everything coming over the next few months, as well as all the old stuff I have yet to tackle.
